Volkswagen Virtus facelift teased ahead of expected December launch

Volkswagen India has teased the Virtus facelift, the sedan's first major update since its June 2022 launch. Prices are not out yet, and the launch is expected in December 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Volkswagen India teased the Virtus facelift on November 4, 2026.
  • It is the first major update since the June 2022 launch.
  • Launch expected in December 2026; prices and variants not yet announced.
  • 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI engines expected to stay, with an expected new 8-speed automatic.
  • The teaser shows new black alloys, LED DRLs, a single-pane sunroof and no connected light bar.

Volkswagen India posted the first official teaser of the Virtus facelift on X on November 4, 2026, tagged #NewVirtus and #ComingSoon. Prices have not been announced, and the launch is expected in December 2026.

This is the first major update to the midsize sedan since it went on sale in June 2022. Volkswagen has not yet published the variant line-up or prices.

What the teaser shows

The changes visible so far are to the styling. The car keeps slim headlamps, now with LED daytime running lights inside the lighting units.

  • A narrow upper grille joins the two headlamps and carries a red GT badge.
  • There is no connected LED light strip across the front and no illuminated Volkswagen logo.
  • Split tail lamps carry red LED elements.
  • New black alloy wheels.
  • The teaser car is blue with black mirror housings.
  • An overhead shot shows a single-pane sunroof and a shark-fin antenna.

Our view: the front is a measured refresh rather than a redesign. Volkswagen has skipped the full-width light bar many rivals have adopted, so the facelift should still look recognisably like the current Virtus.

Engines and gearbox

The facelift is expected to keep both turbo-petrol engines, the 1.0-litre TSI and the 1.5-litre TSI. The bigger reported change is the automatic: an 8-speed torque converter automatic is expected to replace the existing automatic gearbox.

Volkswagen has not confirmed either point. If the 8-speed unit arrives, it would be the main mechanical change in this update.

When it launches

The launch is expected in December 2026, though some reports point to late November or early December. Volkswagen has not given a date, and bookings and delivery timelines have not been announced.
