Engines, prices and gearboxes

You get one 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, tuned differently for petrol and CNG.

FuelPower / torqueGearboxStarting price
Petrol86hp / 113Nm5-speed manual or 5-speed AMTRs 5.29 lakh
iCNG76hp / 97NmNot announcedRs 6.29 lakh

The CNG version gives up 10hp and 16Nm against the petrol. The boot is 419 litres. Rivals are the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura.

Safety and what changes up the range

Safety is the strongest part of the package. Six airbags are standard, and the car also lists a 360-degree camera with blind-spot monitor, tyre-pressure monitoring, hill-hold control and Isofix anchorages.

There are five trims: Smart, Pure, Pure+, Creative and Accomplished. The step that matters most for city driving is from Smart to Pure: the AMT is offered only from Pure upward, so if you want two pedals, Smart is out.

The features list includes ventilated leatherette seats, an OpenView dashboard, dual integrated screens, a 26.03 cm touchscreen, a wireless charger, LED lighting elements, new bumpers and 15-inch alloy wheels. Tata has not yet detailed which of these each trim gets.

What it costs on the road

The Smart MT petrol at Rs 5,29,000 ex-showroom is estimated at about Rs 6,40,000 on the road in Mumbai, based on four similarly priced petrol variants on IndiCar's price list. This is an estimate, not a quote; IndiCar confirms the exact on-road price in writing before you book.
