Mahindra's Vision S compact SUV design has now been patented, the last of the four Freedom NU concepts to be registered. There is no price yet, and you cannot book it: Mahindra says production of these concepts starts in 2027, and booking details will be announced closer to launch.

What the patent shows

The patent shows an upright, boxy front end. It has inverted L-shaped lighting enclosures and room for the illuminated 6-slot grille seen on the concept. The images are also reported to show squared-off headlamps and a vertical grille.

The rugged details from the concept remain:

• A chunky, bull-bar-style front bumper
• Underbody protection
• A clamshell bonnet
• Flared wheel arches

The Vision S is aimed at the sub-4-metre segment and is expected to take on the Jimny.

Platform and the other concepts

Mahindra unveiled four concepts at its Freedom NU event on August 15, 2025. All four use its new NU_IQ platform, which can take petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric powertrains. For the Vision S, a sub-4m length and a 2,665mm wheelbase are reported as confirmed.
