The 2026 Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition is on sale in India from Rs 36.51 lakh ex-showroom, and you can book one from October 12, 2026. It comes only in 4x2 form with the 2.8-litre diesel engine: the manual costs Rs 36.51 lakh and the automatic Rs 38.72 lakh, both ex-showroom, according to launch reports. The changes are mostly blacked-out styling and a maroon-accented cabin, plus two practical additions: auto-folding mirrors and tyre pressure monitoring. Rs 36.51 lakh is the ex-showroom figure. The price you pay in Mumbai will be higher.

What Toyota has launched and what it costs

There are two versions, both 4x2 diesel, with prices as reported at launch:

VersionEx-showroom price
Leader Edition 4x2 diesel manualRs 36.51 lakh
Leader Edition 4x2 diesel automaticRs 38.72 lakh

The automatic costs Rs 2.21 lakh more than the manual. The engine is the familiar 2.8-litre diesel; reports put torque at 420 Nm with the manual and 500 Nm with the automatic. Bookings open on October 12, 2026, at Toyota dealers and on Toyota's website.

The equipment details below come from launch reports, not from a Toyota price sheet. Check them against the dealer's spec list before you pay a booking amount.

What changes on the outside

The exterior changes all follow a black theme. The report lists:

  • Gloss-black alloy wheels
  • A dual-tone black roof
  • A signature front grille
  • Black accents across the exterior
  • An exclusive emblem on the hood

Reported colours are Super White, Platinum White Pearl and Attitude Black.

These are appearance changes. If you like the darker look, you get it from the factory and do not have to arrange wraps or painted wheels from an aftermarket shop. If you do not care about the look, none of these items changes how the SUV drives or carries people.

Inside the cabin and added equipment

The cabin gets dual-tone black and maroon upholstery with matching door trims, ambient lighting and illuminated scuff plates. Again, this is mostly about appearance.

The two additions with day-to-day value are:

  • Auto-folding outside rear-view mirrors (ORVMs). This is useful in Mumbai, where you often park on a narrow lane or in a tight society compound and a large SUV's mirrors are the first thing to get clipped.
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). It warns you when a tyre is losing pressure. On a heavy SUV this matters on highway runs out of the city, such as weekend trips to the ghats.

The report names no mechanical changes for this edition.

Why Rs 36.51 lakh is not your Mumbai price

Every launch price you read is ex-showroom. In Mumbai, five things are added before the car is yours: Maharashtra road tax and registration, first-year insurance, 1% TCS on any car above Rs 10 lakh (which you can claim back in your income tax return), and FASTag. On a diesel car priced above Rs 20 lakh, Maharashtra road tax is the largest of these, so the Mumbai on-road price of either Leader Edition will be several lakh above the launch figure.

IndiCar lists Mumbai on-road prices, with the full breakup, for the standard Fortuner range on the Toyota Fortuner price page. Use it as your reference point, and ask the dealer for the Leader Edition's written breakup line by line. You can also check any quote in the IndiCar on-road price calculator or compare other SUVs on our list of new cars with Mumbai on-road prices.

Our view: who should book

This is a styling edition with two useful extras. It is not a new Fortuner. Book it if you want the Fortuner in 4x2 form and prefer the black exterior and maroon cabin, or if the auto-folding mirrors and TPMS matter to you.

Before you book, do three things:

  • Ask the dealer to confirm the ex-showroom price of the version you want: Rs 36.51 lakh for the manual and Rs 38.72 lakh for the automatic, as reported at launch.
  • Get a written Mumbai on-road breakup with registration, insurance, TCS and FASTag listed separately.
  • Confirm the equipment list in writing, because the details here come from launch reports rather than a Toyota document.

If you need four-wheel drive, note that this edition is sold only in 4x2 form.
