Where the on-road money goes in Mumbai

For the cheapest variant of each car, the on-road price is built from four lines:

LineNexon Smart Petrol ManualCurvv Smart X Petrol Manual
Ex-showroomRs 7,36,990Rs 9,99,990
RTO registration and road taxRs 85,995Rs 1,14,749
Insurance (first-year comprehensive)Rs 48,051Rs 50,712
FASTagRs 850Rs 850

The ex-showroom price is the headline, but the RTO and road tax line alone is Rs 1,14,749 on the cheapest Curvv and Rs 85,995 on the cheapest Nexon. Quotes that stop at ex-showroom leave out these lines. To test any variant, use the on-road price calculator.

How many variants fit your budget

Budget bands show the difference between the two ranges more clearly than the endpoints do.

  • Nexon: 4 of 66 priced combinations are at or under Rs 10,00,000 on-road, and 48 of 66 are at or under Rs 15,00,000.
  • Curvv: 6 of 26 priced combinations are at or under Rs 15,00,000 on-road, and 22 of 26 are at or under Rs 20,00,000.

If your ceiling is Rs 15,00,000 on-road, the Nexon is the car with depth: most of its range sits under that figure. On the Curvv, only 6 variants do. If your ceiling is Rs 20,00,000, the Curvv opens up, with 22 of its 26 combinations inside it.

Who each car suits

The Nexon suits you if your on-road budget is under Rs 15,00,000, or if you want a CNG, AMT or wide diesel choice. With 66 combinations, you can usually find a trim, fuel and gearbox that lands where you want it.

The Curvv suits you if your budget is closer to Rs 15,00,000 to Rs 20,00,000 and you are comfortable starting at Rs 11,66,301. It offers fewer combinations, 26 in all, and no CNG.

One caution: these figures are purchase prices. Running costs for petrol, CNG and diesel are not covered here, so do not pick a fuel on the on-road figure alone.

What to ask the dealer

  • Ask for the on-road quote broken into ex-showroom, RTO and road tax, insurance and FASTag, and compare each line with the figures above.
  • Ask for the exact feature list of the trim you are considering, and what the next trim up adds.
  • Ask whether the quoted insurance is first-year comprehensive, as in the figures here.
  • If you want an automatic, ask which automatic gearbox the variant has, since the Nexon lists both AMT and Automatic.
  • Ask for any add-ons to be itemised separately from the on-road price.

You can see every variant for each car on the Tata Nexon prices page and the Tata Curvv prices page, or browse all new cars with Mumbai on-road prices.

Which one should you choose on price

On price, the Nexon is the lower-cost choice at every end of the range we have figures for, and it has more variants under Rs 15,00,000. The Curvv makes sense only if you have decided you want it and your budget stretches to at least Rs 11,66,301 on-road. Before deciding either way, compare features and running costs, which this price comparison does not cover.
