The Tata Nexon costs Rs 8,71,886 (8.72 lakh) on-road in Mumbai for the cheapest version, the Smart Petrol Manual. The most expensive, the Fearless+PS AMT RDK Diesel Automatic, costs Rs 17,42,760 (17.43 lakh). That is a gap of Rs 8,70,874 across 71 variant and powertrain combinations. The cheapest two-pedal Nexon is the Smart + Petrol AMT at Rs 10,37,474, which is Rs 1,65,588 more than the base Smart Petrol Manual. If you want an automatic in Mumbai traffic on a tight budget, price that one first.

Where trim and gearbox trade off
At some price points you have to choose between a better trim and an automatic gearbox. The Pure + PS AMT Diesel Automatic and the Creative New Diesel Manual have the same ex-showroom price, Rs 11,36,990, and the same on-road price, Rs 13,69,317. For the same money, you get either the AMT on a Pure + PS or the manual on a Creative.
At the top, the three Fearless+PS AMT diesel automatics are the only Nexons above 17 lakh on-road: Rs 17,07,194, Rs 17,30,905 and Rs 17,42,760.

On these numbers, the strongest value sits at the bottom of the range and with CNG. The Smart Petrol Manual at Rs 8,71,886 is the cheapest way into a Nexon. The Smart CNG Manual adds CNG for almost the same on-road price as the Smart + Petrol Manual. On purchase price alone, diesel costs the most to put on the road: at equal ex-showroom prices it carries the highest on-road cost of the three fuels in Mumbai, because Maharashtra charges diesel cars a higher road tax rate.
