Hyundai has opened Bayon bookings at Rs 11,000 ahead of an October 26 launch. Prices, variants and colours are still unannounced, and reports estimate Rs 9 lakh to Rs 15.00 lakh ex-showroom.
Key takeaways
- Hyundai has opened Bayon bookings for Rs 11,000. Launch and price announcement are on October 26.
- Reported ex-showroom estimates range from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 15.00 lakh. No official price exists yet.
- There is one engine, a 1.5-litre petrol making 115 PS, with a 6-speed manual or IVT automatic.
- Dual 12.3-inch screens, an AI voice assistant and Bluelink are confirmed. Safety features such as Level-2 ADAS are expected but not confirmed.
- Variants, colours and delivery timelines are still unannounced, so most buyers are better off waiting for October 26 before committing.
Hyundai Motor India unveiled the India-spec Bayon on Monday and has opened bookings for Rs 11,000. The SUV launches on October 26, which is when Hyundai will announce prices and the full variant lineup. Deliveries are scheduled to start during the festive season, with detailed timelines due at launch. Until then you know the engine, the gearbox choices and much of the equipment on the revealed car, but not what you will pay or which features come with which variant.
What Hyundai has confirmed so far
Five things are on record from the unveiling:
- Launch date: October 26.
- Booking amount: Rs 11,000.
- Deliveries: due to begin in the festive season, with exact timelines to be announced at launch.
- Engine: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol producing 115 PS.
- Gearboxes: a 6-speed manual or Hyundai's Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT).
Still missing: prices, variant names, colour options and the feature list for each variant. Prices and the detailed variant lineup are due on launch day, while colour details are yet to be revealed.
Expected price: Rs 9 lakh to Rs 15.00 lakh, ex-showroom estimates
No official price exists yet. Reported estimates fall in a band from Rs 9 lakh at the bottom to Rs 15.00 lakh at the top, ex-showroom:
| Source | Estimated ex-showroom price |
|---|---|
| DriveSpark | Rs 9 lakh to Rs 14 lakh |
| LatestLY | Rs 9.00 lakh to Rs 15.00 lakh |
These are media estimates, not Hyundai figures. They are also ex-showroom numbers, so they leave out registration, insurance and the other charges that make up what you actually pay in Mumbai. Once the official price is out, IndiCar's on-road price calculator shows how the ex-showroom figure becomes an on-road total.
Engine and gearboxes
There is one engine: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol making 115 PS. You choose between a 6-speed manual and Hyundai's IVT automatic. None of the reports mentions a turbo petrol, diesel or electric version, so for now the Bayon is a petrol car with a choice of two gearboxes.
For Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane, the real choice is manual or IVT. The facts so far say nothing on fuel efficiency or the price gap between the two, so neither gearbox can be judged on cost yet. Running costs are not covered here.
Features: what is confirmed and what is reported
The equipment falls into three groups. Each one carries a different level of certainty.
Confirmed on the India-spec reveal:
- Dual 12.3-inch displays.
- Hyundai India's first generative AI voice assistant. According to reports, it combines Intelligence by Perplexity with voice AI technology from SoundHound AI.
- An NVIDIA-accelerated Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC).
- Over-the-air updates.
- More than 70 Hyundai Bluelink connected features.
- 17-inch alloy wheels with 215-section tyres on the revealed model.
- Front and rear parking sensors on the revealed model.
Listed by CarDekho: single-zone automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, a Bose premium sound system and a sunroof.
Expected, not confirmed: CarDekho says the Bayon is likely to get 6 airbags, ESC, a 360-degree camera with blind-spot monitor, TPMS and Level-2 ADAS. Treat this list as a forecast until Hyundai publishes the official specification sheet.
What each step up the range adds
This cannot be answered yet. Hyundai has not named the variants, and reports say final feature availability will depend on the variant. The revealed car is probably not the base model, but the facts do not say which variant it is.
When the lineup is announced on October 26, these are the features that should separate the lower and upper variants:
- Screens and software: whether every variant gets the dual 12.3-inch displays, the AI voice assistant and Bluelink, or only the higher ones.
- Wheels: whether the 17-inch alloys with 215-section tyres are standard or limited to the top end.
- Comfort items: where the sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless charger, automatic climate control and Bose system start in the range.
- Safety: which variants carry the 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitor and Level-2 ADAS, if Hyundai confirms them.
- Gearbox: which variants offer the IVT and which are manual only.
Before you book, IndiCar gives you the official feature sheet for the variant you choose, so you know exactly what that variant includes.
Where the Bayon sits: Venue, Creta and the Maruti Victoris
Reports place the Bayon between the Venue and the Creta in Hyundai's range. Outside it, reports name the Maruti Victoris as its rival. That makes the Bayon an option for buyers who want more than a Venue but don't want to stretch to a Creta. Whether it works out as good value against either car, or against the Victoris, depends on the prices announced on October 26. You can see current Mumbai on-road prices for those models on IndiCar's new cars page.
Should you pay Rs 11,000 now
Our view: unless you specifically want an early festive-season delivery, wait until October 26. A booking today commits money before three key facts are known: the price, which variant gets which features, and when your car will actually arrive. Hyundai has confirmed the engine, the gearboxes and the main screen and connectivity hardware. The parts that decide value are still open, including the safety equipment CarDekho expects but which is not confirmed.
If you are already sure about the Bayon, the 1.5 petrol and your choice of gearbox, an early booking carries less risk. Even then, check the variant-wise feature list before you settle on a trim.
