What the Bayon brings
Hyundai calls the Bayon an Intelligent Utility Vehicle. The headline item is the company's first generative AI voice assistant in India. It uses Intelligence by Perplexity and Voice AI from SoundHound AI.
- Two curved 62.5 cm (12.3-inch) panoramic displays
- More than 500 built-in voice commands
- Interface in 10 regional and 2 international languages
- Hyundai Bluelink with more than 70 connected features
- Over-the-air updates for up to 19 controllers
- Level 2+ ADAS, 6 airbags and tyre pressure monitoring
For a car meant to sit under the Creta, that is a long technology list. The reported rival is the Maruti Victoris, and the Bayon will also face sub-4-metre SUVs.
Engine and gearbox choices
There is one engine: a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol making 115 PS and 144 Nm. You choose between a 6-speed manual and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT).
Hyundai has not yet published a variant list, so the only confirmed step in the range today is the gearbox. The manual suits you if you want to pay for the car's technology rather than an automatic. The IVT suits heavy city traffic. Hyundai has not given prices or running costs for either, so wait for the launch figures before choosing.
Expected prices
Hyundai has not announced prices. Two reported estimates are in circulation:
| Estimate | Reported range |
|---|---|
| First estimate (ex-showroom) | Rs 9 lakh to 14 lakh |
| Second estimate | Rs 9.79 - 15.49 lakh |
Treat both as guesses until 26 October. Once prices are out, you can work out the full cost with the on-road price calculator and set it against rivals on the list of new cars with on-road prices.
