Renault Duster 7 Seater Scores 3 Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

India-Bound Renault Duster 7-Seater (Boreal) Achieves 3-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

The upcoming 7-seater variant of the Renault Duster, expected to be named ‘Boreal’ in India, has secured a 3-star safety rating in the latest Euro NCAP crash tests. Tested in Europe as the Dacia Bigster, this SUV is slated for an Indian launch in 2026, following the introduction of the new-generation 5-seater Duster.

🚗 Euro NCAP Safety Ratings Breakdown

Category Score (Points) Percentage
Adult Occupant Protection 27.7 / 40 69%
Child Occupant Protection 42.0 / 49 85%
Vulnerable Road Users 37.9 / 63 60%
Safety Assist Systems 7.8 / 13 57%

🛡️ Adult Occupant Protection

In frontal offset crash tests, the Dacia Bigster’s passenger compartment remained stable, offering good protection to the knees and femurs of both front occupants. However, chest protection for the driver was rated as weak due to compression. In the full-width barrier test, chest protection for both the driver and rear passenger was rated as marginal. Side impact tests showed excellent results, with maximum scores across all critical body areas

👶 Child Occupant Protection

The SUV provided excellent protection for child occupants in both frontal offset and side barrier tests, scoring a total of 42 out of 49 points. The front passenger airbag can be disabled for rear-facing child seats, with clear status information for the driver. While it lacks a child presence detection system, all approved child restraints could be correctly installed and accommodated in the vehicle

🧰 Safety Features

The European-spec Dacia Bigster comes equipped with several safety features

  • Six airbags

  • Seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters

  • ISOFIX child seat mounts

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists

  • Lane Keep Assist

📅 India Launch Timeline

Renault plans to introduce the new-generation 5-seater Duster in India in 2025, with the 7-seater Boreal expected to follow in 2026. The Indian version is anticipated to retain the core safety features of its European counterpart, though specific configurations may vary based on market requirements

📝 Conclusion

The 3-star Euro NCAP rating for the upcoming Renault Boreal indicates a commendable level of safety, particularly in child occupant protection. While there is room for improvement in adult occupant protection and safety assist features, the SUV’s performance aligns with industry standards for vehicles in its segment. As Renault prepares to launch this model in India, prospective buyers can look forward to a spacious 7-seater SUV that balances practicality with a solid safety profile.
